Step Folds
Above is the crease pattern for the WIDGET. The starting dimension of the paper
is 1 x 4. I like to make the model from wet-folded canson (watercolor) paper
because it makes a sturdy model which holds up well to usage. Basically, the
paper is divided into 16ths length-wise by valley folds. Then, the 45-degree
diagonal mountain folds are added.
Mountain Fold
Valley Fold
Above is an unfolded widget. After making the precreases, pleat the model up...
... like this. Continue collapsing
the pleats until...
... your model looks like this.  Now,
open out two sections (of the 16ths)
on each end and overlap
them end over end those two
sections...
...like so.  Make sure that the small corner (mountain)
folds are folded behind on the top layer.  The corners of
the bottom layer are opened out.  Collapse the two layers
as one, folding on theexisting creases...
... until your model is completely locked.
Reinforce the creases.  If your model has been
wet-folded from canson paper, rotate the
model to where the raw-edged points are facing
outward...
...like so.  After it has thoroughly dried,
reinforce the creases
again, compacting the model as much as
possible.  When the
points are facing inward, the model is
considered to be in the "locked"
position. This position is preferred when
stacking them to make the
